    • Acknowledgement that the Latino community is greatly concern & worried about potential impacts of Trump presidency and changes to immigration policy.

  • Oklahoma AIDS Care Fund (OACF)
    • General
      • Held first orientation for new board members last week, which included presentations by Terry Dennison (Planned Parenthood), Nohora Chandler (LCDA), Mary Arbuckle, (Other Options), and Andy Moore (IDI Clinic). Board members all expressed appreciation of the information & insight.
      • OACF Networking Luncheon: April 28th. Location TBA.
    • Advocacy
      • Received $50,000 grant from Elton John Foundation for HIV advocacy efforts.
      • Oklahoma House Representative Emily Virgin (D-Norman) has agreed to sponsor bill to update HIV education standards. Hoping state Senator AJ Griffin (R-Guthrie) will co-sponsor. 
      • Advocacy team meeting at 8:30am this Thursday, January 19th, at Urban Teahouse on NW 23rd. All are welcome to attend. 
      • HIV Advocacy Day at the State Capitol will be April 10th. Table space will be available for all agencies who would like to participate. There will be an advocacy training beforehand; stay tuned for details.
    • Red Tie Night
      • March 4, 2017 at the National Cowboy and Western Heritage Museum!
      • Volunteers still needed for the event. Contact Cher or Lany if you are interested. 
    • HIV Symposium
      • July 24-27th at the Skirvin Hotel in downtown OKC. 
      • Jeannie White Ginder, the mother of Ryan White, has confirmed to be guest speaker. 
      • Early HIV researchers may also be speaking. 
         
  • Oklahoma Primary Care Association / ACA Marketplace Navigators
    • As of December 31st, more than 140,000 Oklahomans had enrolled in insurance through the Marketplace - a new record!
    • Enrollment is open thru January 31st.
    • Regarding everyone's fear of what will happen with ACA & healthcare under new administration: Remember: There's lots of noise, but nothing has changed.

    • New Health Educator: Margret Wakins

    • Next OHHPC (Oklahoma HIV & Hepatitis Planning Council) meeting: Feb 7th, 10a-1pm. Location TBD.
       
  • OUHSC Infectious Diseases Institute (IDI)
    • New Case Manager: Meeghan Whittker, MSW.
    • New nurse: Janae Brown, LPN.

    • Next available medical appointments for new HIV patients is around end of March, however...
    • New Nurse Practitioner, Melissa Alfred, has started seeing patients this month. She is currently seeing return patients for 1 hour each, then will be allowed to see returns for the standard 30 minutes, and then will start seeing new patients. 
    • Currently working on Ryan White Part D grant application. May request data or letters or support from some organizations. 
       
  • Other Options, Inc.
    • 2016 brought many challenges, but we exceeded our goals for Thanksgiving and Christmas.  We made 231 stops to 750 clients and could feed an extra 250 people that would have gone without a thanksgiving meal.  For Christmas, we gave over 1500 gift wishes and 286 food baskets to our clients and their families.
