  • HIV Prevention Co-Op
    • Finalizing plans for Pride (June 22-24). Theme is "Got a minute?" an allusion to their use of the Insti 1-minute HIV rapid test.
      • Block party condom distribution will be from 6-8pm on Friday 6/22. (Meet at Expressions at 5pm, then distribute from 6-8pm.)
    • Post-Pride: If you or your organization would like to be involved in distributing condoms to the bars along NW 39th Street, please contact Jenny Archer at Expressions. They provide all the materials already packaged up, all you have to do is pick them up and drop them off at each location. 
       
  • Homeless Alliance / Housing Opportunities for People With AIDS (HOPWA)
    • Walk-ins are no longer accepted. Clients must call to schedule an appointment. They can usually be seen within the same week, sometimes even the next day.
    • Michelle is personally calling all clients (and taking meticulous notes about those calls). If you have any questions about a client or HOPWA's contact with them, please feel free to contact Michelle.

  • Oklahoma AIDS Care Fund (OACF)
    • Grant applications were due 5/15. Will be reviewed over the next several weeks and award announcements coming end of July.
    • Lany Milner is accepted a new position at another organization, so OACF has a job opening for a Special Events and Fundraising Coordinator.
    • HIV testing is now available in the building where OACF is located (4001 N. Classen) on Wednesdays 3-6pm and Thursdays 2-5pm. Those seeking to be tested should go upstairs to the Q Space.
       
  • Oklahoma Primary Care Association / ACA Marketplace Navigators
    • Megan is now a case manager at RAIN. Thus, current Navigators are Steve, Gaila, and Barbi.
    • Some uncertainty about the future of the Navigator program grants. Expected to be opened for applications soon, though the grant period start is supposed to start 9/1, so...yeah. Will let you know if anything changes.
    • Steve provided a handout concerning opioid overdoses in Oklahoma

  • OUHSC Infectious Diseases Institute (IDI Clinic)
    • Next available appts:

      • Training now; will eventually be taking over Meeghan Whittker's caseload.

    • Changes to HDAP renewal process: 
      • All clients w/ Marketplace insurance need to supply 2017 tax return & copy of recent BCBS invoice.
      • Additional documents may be required if information has changed.
      • Patients who are eligible for Medicare Part D (prescription coverage) must enroll in that program. HDAP may be able to assist with Medicare premiums & copays, but the client must enroll. If they do not enroll, they will not be eligible for any HDAP assistance. 
    • Dental program active. Screenings in IDI on Thurs mornings 9a-12p. Patients should expect to be contacted by the College of Dentistry 4-6 weeks after screening to schedule.

    • Free HIV 3rd Thursday of the month, 4-7pm at the all-access clinic (Straka Terrace location).

    • Laura Fleet from SendaRide (www.sendaride.com) was present to share information about the company. SendaRide provides non-emergency medical transportation that can be scheduled in advance or on-demand. Rates are comparable to Uber/Lyft/Taxi. Drivers are fully vetted and trained. They will pick you up at the door, walk you to the clinic for your appointment, pick you up at the clinic, walk you to your door at home. 
      • In fact, think of it like Uber, but with medically-trained drivers who offer a much higher level of care and service. 
    • Organizations can have a dashboard where they schedule rides for clients.
    • Every trip has video/audio recording to ensure safety for passengers.
    • Services available statewide.

    • Reminder that DHS has a program to pay Medicare premiums for some clients. James gave brief overview; view his slides here. He is working on a more robust presentation that will be shared in the future.

    • YES group moving to west side of building. Coffee shop opening to public soon. Other offices will be consolidating, some may be available for lease to the public. In short: if you see a "For Lease" sign on the community center, don't worry - they're not leaving!

    • HIV advocacy efforts are ongoing. Current focus remains on updating the language of the health education mandate; will again be proposing state legislation to make that happen.
      • Monthly "citizen advocacy" trainings. Firs tone is on 10/26 from 6-7pm at the OACF office.
    • World AIDS Day activities:
      • Art Show @ Waters Edge on 10/30 @ 5-8p

    • Red Tie Night is March 3rd at the Cowboy Hall of Fame. Tickets available online.
    • HIV advocacy efforts are ongoing. Current focus remains on updating the language of the health education mandate; will again be proposing state legislation to make that happen. 
    • The Edmond Museum & Historical Society is featuring an exhibit entitled "The Power of Children" that includes the story of Ryan White. Details available online.

    • Open Enrollment is Nov 1 - Dec 15th.

    • HIV awareness/testing marketing campaign runs thru Sept 30.
      • New statistic from CDC: 1 in 7 Oklahomans do not know their HIV status.
    • HIV educator training will be held soon. Piloting new curriculum with a group at Variety Care.
    • HIV Counseling/Testing/Referral (CTR) training will be held in Tulsa (9/13-14) and OKC (October). 
      • General CTR update for existing testers on Nov 13th.

    • U.S. Congressman Tom Cole recently visited IDI to learn about importance of Ryan White and NIH funding on fighting infectious diseases, including HIV.

    • New case managers! OKC case mgr is James Cowden. 
    • Not anticipating any further cuts to ACIS funding.

    • YES youth group continues to meet weekly.

    • 51 people tested during OKC Pride; no positives. However, there were 6 people newly identified as positive during the week following Pride.

    • Next available medical appointments for brand new HIV patients is in September. Return patients can get in much sooner.
